The Mising people celebrate Bohag Bihu in their own way while also celebrating Magh Bihu and Kati Bihu in their own style.
Magh Bihu
There are some differences in the customs and traditions of the Mising people in celebrating Magh Bihu. They celebrate Magh Bihu by the worship of the eternal celibate God Bhishma. They start preparing dry wood for Magh Bihu about 15 days ago and the daughters are busy in preparing apong. They start building the Velaghar from the morning of Uruka, gathering nests and dry wood for the Meiji and start building the Meiji from sunset. The Misings build two Meijis, one for male and one for female respectively, and most of them are built on river banks. At night, the daughters prepare the apong for the feast and the young men happily steal ducks and chickens from the village gardens and barns. No woman goes to the Meiji on the night of Uruka. The next morning, an unmarried young man from the village lit up the Meiji and the women of the village come to worship around the Meiji. On that day, they eat apong and potatoes such as sweet potatoes, wood potatoes and bean potatoes.
Kati Bihu
In the evening of Kati Bihu, women light lanterns by burying poles in the fields for good harvest and protection from insect invasion. After that they comes and eats traditionally prepared Apong and Purang Pin (tupula bhat).
