The MISING tribe, also known as the MIRIs, are an indigenous community predominantly found in the Indian state of Assam. They are recognized for their vibrant culture, rich traditions, and unique way of life. The MISING people's are primarily inhabitants of the Brahmaputra Valley and its surrounding areas.

Traditionally, the MISING tribe practiced agriculture, with rice being a staple crop. They are skilled in weaving and are renowned for their expertise in crafting traditional handlooms. The women of the MISING community are particularly adept at weaving intricate patterns and designs, often using natural fibers and dyes.

The MISING society is organized around a democratic and egalitarian system, with each village governed by a council of elders known as the GAAMs. Social harmony and communal welfare are highly valued within their community.

Their cultural heritage is celebrated through various festivals and rituals, such as Ali-aye-ligang and Porag. These festivals mark important agricultural milestones and are occasions for feasting, dancing, and celebrating.

Despite facing challenges such as encroachment on their land and the impact of modernization, the MISING people continue to preserve their traditions and cultural identity. Efforts are being made to promote their language, literature, and traditional knowledge, ensuring the rich legacy of the MISING tribe endures for generations to come.
